The earliest record of racing taking place at the Bangor Raceway in Maine was in 1849. Standardbred horse racing continues to this day on Bass Park, a track which has operated continuously since 1893 and which now boasts a grandstand, built in 1950, with the capacity to seat 3750 people. The 4 furlong harness race track has a home straight of 158 metres, offering two racing seasons throughout the year, the first stretching from May to July, and a later season from September to November.
